What is Meditation?

Meditation(Dhyana) is the seventh limb of Ashtanga Yoga and it is an exercise to your mind which promotes mental growth.

Meditation is cutting off your thoughts while cultivating a deep connection with your breath.

The brain slows down when you focus all of your attention on your breathing while you meditate, since there is nothing else to distract it, and subsequently, it becomes one with your inner soul.

With practice, you can master meditation just like any other art.

What happens when you master Meditation?

The persistent practice of meditation activates your third eye(Agya Chakra) which induces cognitive thinking. Meditation deepens your spirituality and transforms you into a beautiful human being inside out. The highest level one can achieve through meditation is to reach Sahasrara Chakra which unites them with supreme power. This is the final step of Ashtanga Yoga where you attain Samadhi, a state of ecstasy.

Tips for beginners-

Here are some ways to start with meditation:

  1. Use something as a focal point, be it a dot on the wall, your favorite God's idol or anything else that grabs your attention for a bit longer.
  2. Try chanting "Om", concentrating on how the sound travels from your navel to your mouth.
  3. You can simply scan your body from toe to head and observe every sensation you are feeling.

Gradually shift your focus on how you breathe in and how it travels through your body and how you breathe out.

Sitting posture for meditation-

Most of the time, people wonder what sitting posture is best for them, which posture will give less distraction, and which posture will not give them backache if practiced for a longer time. Remember, your comfort is the top priority.

Sit comfortably in any posture. If you want to meditate without fussing much about posture, try these comfortable meditation chairs.
