Choosing a perfect yoga mat can be a tough task, considering the number of choices available out there. To choose a best yoga mat, you should be aware of a few factors to consider before buying it. Let’s discuss a few important things to consider before buying a yoga mat.

Yoga mat suitability varies with factors such as your body type, geographical location, Yoga style, level of experience and when and where you do Yoga.

Investment in Yoga mats never goes waste as they can also be used for workouts, cardio, meditation, chakra healing, reiki, etc.

Usually, mats are categorized based on texture, thickness, material, stickiness, budget, etc., But after seeing countless types of mats almost every day for the last few years, I've come up with four suggestions I would give to Yoga students before purchasing a yoga mat for a comfortable experience.

1.Water-resistant - When you want to do Yoga in park after rain or on a sunny day sweating a lot, you need a mat that won't make you wet.

For this, you can choose between a sustainable cotton mat that absorbs sweat and doesn't become slippery, or a sweat-resistant washable yoga mat, which you can clean frequently. These mats are quick to absorb moisture and do not become very slick when wet.

2.Odor resistance - One of the most common problems faced by yoga students is bad odor. If mats are not washed frequently, they end up throwing a bad odor. If one prefers not to get distracted by such trivial reasons, go for mats that resist odor. CorkYoga mats are a great option if you sweat a lot, practice in a closed space without proper ventilation, or do not have time to wash your mat every day. Cork mats are not only odor resistant, but they also absorb sweat and offer good traction.

3.Lightweight and easily carryable - Many people love nature and prefer doing Yoga outdoors. The mats which are easy to fold and carry come in handy. But these mats cannot be used regularly. If you are intending to use them every day, then try the mats which have a cotton upper layer and a rubber base. Designed for daily use, these mats are lightweight and equally effective as rubber mats. You can also prefer cork yoga mats which are lightweight, thin, and extremely easy to carry.

4. Inspiring design Yoga mats - Many students prefer to practice Yoga with other people to get inspiration to do Yoga daily. Your motivation to practice Yoga will increase when you have a yoga mat that illustrates what you gain from it. For example, if your yoga mat depicts the seven chakras, you will visualize that chakras can be unblocked through asanas, meditation and pranayama, which will motivate you to practice by yourself without excuses. So consider buying a mat that has 7chakras or Surya namaskar (Sun Salutation) or some design that instantly inspires you to practice yoga.

In addition to these, choose Yoga mats that areanti-slippery, eco-friendly, and durable.

But remember, always look for a Yoga mat that isbiodegradable and environmentally friendly, no matter what type you choose. Nature is the mother of all, so it is our responsibility to protect her by using recyclable materials.
