Some acts need an Internal Voice.

India has one of the largest shortfall of Blood and demand outstrips the supply by close to 400%. (Lancet). Considering the large Indian population, record number of road accidents every year, millions of planned & unplanned operations, and pregnancy complications, the demand for blood and blood transfusion is humungous.

Every corporate & NGOs tries its level best by conducting frequent blood donation camps however myths, lethargy and 'what -do-get-in-Return' attitude makes this task a big challenge. Besides lot of these Corporates and NGOs work in 'Silos' making equitable distribution and availability of Blood a Huge challenge. Some states have surplus Blood, some get wasted because of poor storage infra or some just can’t get this collection done as per the required quantity.

It’s time we change our Narratives to make this act an Inner Voice and an Inner Consciousness.

Yoga, Karma Yoga and selflessness:

Karma Yoga was first outlined in the Bhagavad Gita, the 700-verse Indian scripture estimated to date back to somewhere between the 5th and 2nd centuries B.C.E. The Bhagavad Gita offers several approaches to liberation from suffering, self-realization and connection with the Divine, of which Karma Yoga is said to be the most practical.

The text highlights the importance of selfless action, in which service is offered from the heart, with full awareness, consciousness on the excellence of the act itself and with no expectation of results.

In yoga, 'Karma' is known as the path of action, or selfless service towards others. Karma Yoga is considered to be one of the most practical and effective means of spiritual development.

Blood Donation & Karma Yoga

Today is World Blood Donor Day (WBDD) and is held on June 14 each year.

I feel that the act of getting on to that Blood Donation table and not knowing to whom the donated blood will benefit, is one of the greatest & supreme act of Selfless Service and more so in todays changed eco-system.

Importance of Blood Donations (Wikipedia/WHO): Blood is a necessary resource for the planned treatments and the urgent interventions. It is helpful for patients who are suffering from life-threatening conditions for living longer and with a higher quality of life. It supports complex medical and surgical procedures.
